According to ITPro, Derek Wyatt MP was giving a speech where he waxed lyrical about the prospect of the Oyster Card turning into a mini ID card (No2ID), when he let slip that the security contract for the 2012 Olympics was linked to whether the bidder was a sponsor of the Olympics.
Upbeat and impressed, and then he dropped the bombshell, which I hope will not be a bad choice of words for the future, when he casually revealed that because neither of these companies was a "major sponsor" of the Olympics their technology could not be used.
If true, this is scandalous. The contracts should be awarded on the merits of the system, not on the basis of a bung!
Security Consultant, Bruce Schneier, is equally amazed.
