I found myself at the Millennium Dome this morning, sadly a little too late to see off the 'Backing Blair' bus, but no great problem. I had never been to see the dome up close, and it seemed like a good opportunity. I don't think I've ever seen such a sorry and pathetic excuse for a major development.
The structure itself is interesting, but it is deserted. There is work going on inside, but where is the general public? The dome is closed, and so there is no reason for it to exist any more. It swallowed huge amounts of our money and it is just standing there.
Why isn't this being used? Why is it not given, lock stock and barrel, over to Madame Tussauds for a theme park, British Sport for a venue... anything? It's a colossal waste.
I could almost sense the tumbleweed blowing across the car park.
