Cards on the table. I liked it. I liked it a lot. I thought it was pitched just right. There was a fine line to walk. Update too much and you lose the essential flavour, don't update enough and it's not true to it's roots.
Some of the effects were a little ropey, but given the budget quite acceptable. The humour was pretty good - though Chris Eccleston grinned a little too much for my liking.
Billie Piper was pretty good too, I expected her to be rather annoying! (Even if she can go from behind the London Eye to the side of the river in three paces).
On the whole, a worthy first episode - thankfully they resisted the temptation to go with the Daleks! I do however look forward to the return of the Daleks as they gave me nightmares when I was growing up. They got the scary just right, slightly scary, but not so much that parents would switch it off to 'protect' their children. There are some kids who will have nightmares about shop dummies tonight!
Some adults, too.
What was that I said about not being a fanboy?
