Six Nations - Week 4 - Day 1

Wales vs. Italy was a back and forward affair. No disrespect to Italy, but the defending Grand Slam champions really made a meal of things, still, it keeps Wales in with a chance. With 48 minutes gone in the Scotland vs. Ireland game, it was 12-9 to Scotland. Ireland were not looking like they were certainties for the Grand Slam, and Scotland had some stupendous pieces of play.

It wasn't to be, though, and Ireland went on to win.

In the last week, Wales need to beat Ireland by some 13 points to take the title. If France beat England tomorrow, they can take the title too, but would need Wales to beat Ireland, and would also need a large margin in their game.

Ireland currently have a points difference of 46, France 5. This means that France would have to beat Italy by 42 points minus the points difference between a victorious Wales and Ireland. (It could be 41, but I'm not sure about how the table is sorted if the points difference matches).

For all intents and purposes, Ireland have the trophy in their hands, and only Wales can snatch it away with a tour de force performance.

England and France play for pride tomorrow. C'mon, England!
