Tony Blair breaks his own ministerial code

An article has appeared today which discusses how Tony Blair may have broken his ministerial code by failing to disclose the full legal advice received from the Attorney General - and as a result ministerial colleages may have been mislead. A more careful reading suggests that Clare Short is aiming her first volleys at the Attorney General, but obviously Blair is likely to be hot by the crossfire - especially as he is the person responsible for enforcing the code.

She says in a letter to the Attorney General: 'I am afraid that it is now clear to me that by failing to reveal your full legal advice and the considerations that underpinned your final advice, you misled the Cabinet and therefore helped obtain support for military action improperly. This is a very serious matter in relation to the war in Iraq, the integrity of your office, your own integrity and the proper working of UK constitutional arrangements.'
