Boris missed the vote on ID cards, he was going to vote against, but the vote was held early. (I think I believe him, it's possible that some might consider that it's a way of not displeasing Michael Howard given recent run-ins). On the plus side, has has taken a public stand against ID cards, unlike the rest of his party which is showing great cowardice by abstaining.
In this BBC news article, Charles Clarke said In the Commons Home Secretary Charles Clarke attacked Mr Davis and the Conservatives saying their decision to abstain was a "betrayal of the interests of this country".
Damn right. They should have voted against, like the Lib Dems. Sitting on the fence comes across as a lilly livered trying to please all of the people all of the time, whereas in fact it will please hardly anybody.
