One need not emulate someone in every respect. Though with WW3 one could argue that is was due to Khrushchev

"According to Nikita Khrushchev's memoirs, in May 1962 he conceived the idea of placing intermediate-range nuclear missiles in Cuba as a means of countering an emerging lead of the United States in developing and deploying strategic missiles."
( source )

However, one could also argue that Kruschev was responding to missiles placed on his doorstep in Europe.

... and in turn one could argue that this wouldn't have happened without the soviet 'salami' tactic... and so it goes.

Was JFK solely responsible for the Cuban Missile Crisis?
- No.

Was he partly responsible?
- Perhaps.

Did he help to stop it?
- Yes

Do a JFK? Hope not. We're already in one way. JRK raised our debt, almost caused World War III, and got us into Vietnam with Johnson pushing us in more so.

Why would they? The market will pretty much pay whatever the price is. Why would they even try and pull prices down?

The gasoline companies have developed a short term strategy. While they have a good long term one, they did not focus on what the target market wants and that is gasoline that will save them money.
