2) Run Cleanspl (leaving computer name blank for ‘this computer’, being careful about what not to remove.
Bruce says: When you run it, it asks you if you want to remove some things that are actually delivered (and installed by default) with Windows. In most cases, you should answer No to the corresponding prompts (you don’t want to remove the Standard TCP/IP Port or the BJ Language Monitor).
3) Reinstall printer driver (I have a HP Color (sic) Laserjet 2600n).

It seems to be fixed. I’m using the word ’seems’ advisedly.
Steps:
1) Install Cleanspl

This was still a real pain in the butt!
