Guinness Premiership 2009-10 Continues

So, after the fun of European Rugby and the LV= cup (aka the Anglo Welsh competition), we return to the Premiership with the Six Nations running alongside.

Going into this weekend, the table looks like this:

Team P W D L F A BP PTS
1 Leicester 13 8 1 4 280 168 7 41
2 Saracens 12 9 1 2 216 172 2 40
3 Northampton 12 9 0 3 263 191 3 39
4 London Irish 12 7 2 3 264 154 5 37
5 Wasps 12 7 0 5 211 207 3 31
6 Newcastle 12 4 3 5 167 184 3 25
7 Harlequins 12 4 2 6 216 246 4 24
8 Sale 11 4 1 6 177 212 4 22
9 Gloucester 12 4 1 7 206 258 3 21
10 Bath 12 3 2 7 172 191 4 20
11 Worcester 12 2 4 6 169 206 3 19
12 Leeds Carnegie 12 2 1 9 154 306 4 14

In the Premiership, Wasps last played Tigers. It was the weekend where Leicester made a heroic effort clearing tonnes of snow, and hosted the only premiership game to play – the other five games were postponed. Wasps are six points clear of the playoffs, so it’s a bit of a climb. We’ve come up further than that in past years, so it’s very possible, but in all these things there is no guarantee.

We have two tough games ahead, Sale on Sunday, immediately after the Italy vs England game, and at home to Saracens on the 21st. Saracens are the ‘on form’ team at the moment, they’re playing very conservatively, but reaping the reward. With key Wasps players at the England camp, we will probably see some up and coming names on the field – fingers crossed that they rise to the challenge.
