Web Traffic Spike

Site News November 28th, 2005

I was looking at Google Analytics (see this previous post for details) and noted the big spike in traffic due to my post about HIGNFY.

Most of the new traffic seems to have come from this link from the Boris Johnson site. Okay, so it’s nothing new, and the spike is not THAT big, but it does show the power of one of thes popular sites when they link to you. I dread to think what a slashdot spike might look like!

Web traffic Spike.

Aung San Sun Kyi’s detention

World News November 27th, 2005

As expected, Burma, aka Myanmar, is to extend the detention of Aung San Suu Kyi by another year.

This is becoming an annual formality.

Aung San Suu Kyi was elected as leader of Burma, but the military junta has refused to recognise the result.

As of today, she has been under house arrest for 10 years and 34 days. The ten year anniversary was last month.

In an unrelated move, the junta has relocated the capital in the last few weeks. Speculation is that they’re worried about a US attack, but this makes no sense to me, as the US could equally well attack a new location. A cynic might say that the chances of Bush looking at Burma is small…. they don’t have oil, do they?

More HIGNFY Links

Television November 26th, 2005

Following HIGNFY’s transmission last night, I thought I’d return a few links.

Firstly, BorisBlog linked to my report of the filming. A big traffic spike resulted, and I got my usual weekly traffic in a few hours. I hope some people stuck around for a bit! Makes me wish that post had been a little more coherent instead of a ‘get it down before I forget’ job!

Secondly Boriswatch has a report (and some photographs… naughty!). It looks like I might have had to squeeze past Boriswatch to get my seat…. well, I would have done if they hadn’t been last in. (last in and they got a better seat than me? Grr!)

Boriswatch was also lucky enough to go along to the after show party, and their report talks about that, too.

Leo Blair reviews his life story

News November 26th, 2005

In an animation by Tim Ireland, Leo Blair ‘looks back at his life story’. It is very well done, and as the FAQs say at the end, based on actual events.
