12:34:56 7/8/9

It is now 12:34pm, at 56 seconds, the timestamp is 12:34:56 on 7/8/9

Oh, the simple things in life….

Of course, this does rather rely upon doing dates the european way, d/m/y – i.e. the 7th august.

Americans had this special day on July 8th. Of course, whilst m/d is perfectly reasonably, m/d/y is just mad (update the middle number daily, then the left number and occasionally the right number!).

The most sensible scheme is one hardly anyone ‘in the real world’ uses, and thats ISO-8601, much more sensible as it is sortable without doing anything very clever – and the most commonly changed digits are always on the right (as in counting).

This is then 9/8/7 12:34:56 – which now doesn’t work at all.

Even then, it should have been 2009-08-07 12:34:56

Ah well, happy 12:34:56 7/8/9 …. if you’re in Europe.
